AhlulBayt News Agency - The so-called Islamic State (ISIS) launched a major offensive in the provincial capital of Deir Ezzor on Saturday morning, targeting several districts inside this city that are under the control of the Syrian government forces.

ISIS began their assault by storming the eastern perimeter of the Al-Sina’a District (Industrial District); this resulted in a fierce battle with the Syrian Arab Army’s 104th Airborne Brigade of the Republican Guard.

Luckily, the Syrian Armed Forces were able to drive back the encroaching terrorists before they could advance inside the Industrial District; however, this would not be the case at the nearby Tahtuh District in the city’s southern sector.

According to a military source at the Deir Ezzor Military Airport, ISIS was able to infiltrate into the Tahtuh District, capturing several street blocks in the process of this advance.

Clashes are still ongoing between the two opposing parties, as ISIS attempts to seize the Tahtuh District.
